Discover Buoy Bowls: A Journey of Passion for Açaí

After an invigorating morning surf at Blacks Beach, our founder Derek was introduced to a local açaí shop by his best friend.

It was there that he experienced his first Açaí Bowl—a delightful blend of frozen puréed açaí berries topped with an array of fresh fruits and honey. It was love at first bite!

Returning to the East Coast, Derek faced a challenge: no one in Wilmington, NC, knew what an Açaí Bowl was. Though a little shop on Wrightsville Beach provided some relief for his cravings, the vision of creating something special with açaí lingered in his mind.

Everything Changed

In January 2016 after a surf trip to Puerto Rico, where Derek discovered that Apex, NC—his new hometown—didn’t have any açaí options. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he set out to share his passion for açaí with the Raleigh-Durham community.

Buoy Bowls was born. a food truck dedicated to bringing the joy of Açaí Bowls directly to you.

Our mission is to recreate that unforgettable “love at first bite” experience by using only the finest açaí, sourcing fresh local and organic ingredients whenever possible, and providing friendly service from our dedicated team.
